Cedar is Barker's warm mid-tan, and pressed into a pebble grain it behaves quite differently from the same colour in smooth calf. The raised texture catches light unevenly, so the shoe looks lighter on the high points and darker in the valleys, and it has been burnished a shade deeper around the toe and the heel. Grain is the practical choice too: the pattern hides scuffs that would show up on a plain surface, and it does not demand the constant attention suede does. A tan this warm sits naturally with navy, cream, olive and denim, which makes it the Ledley for spring and summer.
The construction is the same as every other Ledley. It is a Bologna moccasin, with the upper stitched into a soft leather sack that encloses the foot and no stiff board between foot and ground, so it flexes from the first wear. Full leather lining, leather insole, full leather sole, low stacked heel. Made on Barker's 483 last in a G fitting, UK 6 to 12, designed in Northampton.

Care: Grain takes cream polish well, but work it in with a brush rather than a cloth or the pigment collects in the grain and dries pale.
