The Chatham Faraday Loafer Orange is a slip-on penny loafer in burnt-orange leather. It comes from Chatham's British-made "BY U" line, stitched on the last at the company's own workshop in Exeter, Devon, rather than bought in from an outside factory.
The build is a true moccasin. The apron front is seamed by hand over the toe, a saddle strap crosses the vamp with the classic penny slot, and there is no lacing anywhere on the shoe. It sits on a cream sole unit over a tan midsole, so it flexes like a deck shoe rather than a welted dress loafer. Underfoot Chatham use their Poron sole-spring cushioning, which absorbs shock and is treated to resist bacteria - worth having in a shoe most owners wear barefoot.
This is a warm-weather loafer rather than a formal one. It suits chinos, shorts, linen and denim, and makes no attempt to pass as a dress shoe: no welt, no polished toe. What it offers instead is a properly made English moccasin in a colour the usual black-and-brown loafer range never goes near.

Sizing: the Faraday runs small. Chatham's own advice is to order one size above your usual size.
Care: Wipe clean and let the leather dry naturally, away from direct heat. Feed it with leather conditioner every few months. The vamp softens and takes the shape of your foot over the first few wears.
