The Chatham Glen Sheepskin Mule Slipper Dark Brown is a backless house slipper from Chatham, the marine and country brand that has been making footwear in Devon since 1989. It is a plain design: no fastening, a bound edge round the collar, and a single seam running down the centre of the vamp picked out in a lighter thread.
Chatham make the Glen from sheepskin with the wool turned inwards. The outer face is dark brown with a lightly distressed finish, so marks read as part of the character rather than as damage. Inside, a dense cream fleece lines the footbed and spills over the collar where the heel sits. Underneath is a moulded outsole with a shallow tread and a low heel, firmer than the felt or suede sole used on many house slippers.
Being a mule, there is no back to hold the heel. That is the point of the design and also its limit: you step in and out without bending down, and the slipper will not stay put if you take the stairs at speed. The fleece is warm enough that most people wear them barefoot.

Care: Lift the fleece with a soft brush when it flattens. Wipe the outer with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally, away from radiators and direct heat. Chatham recommend a natural beeswax cream for their leathers.
