A tassel loafer in black is the version that can be worn with a suit. The Charles is cut from what John White call Parma leather, a soft calf chosen so that the shoe moulds to the individual foot over its first few wears while the last underneath keeps its shape. The tassels over the instep are the only decoration on it.
John White no longer make the Charles. These are the last pairs we hold, and they are in the Outlet: one pair in UK 10 and one in UK 12, whole sizes only.
F is John White's standard fitting. A loafer has no laces to take up slack, so it should feel snug across the instep when new; the leather gives a little with wear.
The John White name dates from 1919, and the design side of the business is still in Northamptonshire; the shoes come from partner makers. John White publish no construction type or sole detail for the Charles, so we claim none.
Care: Black cream to feed the leather, a little wax on the toe and heel if you want a shine, and trees after every wear so the vamp does not crease deeply. Let a wet pair dry slowly, away from heat.
