The Charles in tan is the easier-going version of the same shoe: John White's tassel loafer in their soft Parma calf, in a colour that sits naturally with chinos, flannels and denim. Tan also keeps a record of its wear, darkening where the foot flexes and wherever polish is built up, so a pair looks more personal after a season than it did out of the box.

John White no longer make the Charles. This is the last pair we hold, and it is in the Outlet: a single pair in UK 12.

F is John White's standard fitting. A loafer has no laces to take up slack, so it should feel snug across the instep when new; the leather gives a little with wear. The Charles in black is also in the Outlet, in UK 10 and 12.

John White publish no construction type or sole detail for the Charles, so we claim none.

Care: A neutral or tan cream rather than a dark polish, which would flatten the colour. Brush after wearing and keep trees in them between wears.
