The finest calf leather is used to create a truly beautiful Oxford shoe with fleur-de-lis punched cap detailing and features distinctive navy leather lining, in-channel stitched oak bark leather soles with hand painted fiddle waist
Oak bark tanning is a traditional method of leather preservation, dating back to at least medieval times. The hides are steeped in oak bark extract, usually for between nine and twelve months, to give a natural, hard wearing, flexible sole. The Cheaney Imperial Collection features in-channel stitching of oak bark soles, when the edge of the sole is delicately split open and grooved so that the stitching of the sole to the welt can be embedded discreetly within the depth of the sole. The split edge is then carefully stuck back down and hand-painted for a distinctive finishing touch.
