Born from such humble manufacturing beginnings as John Chapman’s kitchen table in 1984, Chapman bags have since grown to be a symbol of excellent British craftsmanship and style. Chapman began by making fishing bags so was well versed in making strong, well-lasting holdalls, before moving into fashion bags. Despite the overwhelming success of his design vision, John Chapman is quoted as humbly claiming that his most popular bags “were designed in the pub after work”.
With fans all over the world, the bags have been championed by owners such as Princess Anne, Robert Plant, and Sarah Ferguson. In the years since their first design, these bags are still British owned and manufactured in their original home of Cumbria. They’ve gained a worldwide following with their products, which are now being sold across all continents. We’re so happy to be able to showcase them in our Birmingham shop. Their triumph of creating a successful business from scratch remains an inspiration to this day.
